Lately Meredith has been struggling with things that are real and pretend. When we were at Disney back in March if she was scared of something I simply told her the truth- it’s not real. The mean witch is not real. Beast is not real. He’s just pretend.
Last week we went to a state park that has a farm that is operated as if it were in the 1800’s. You can wander around, talk with the people working the farm, look at the animals, and go through the farmhouse. It was really a neat place. We were watching a horse plow the field. Horses are big, especially to a 2.7 year old (or as Meredith now says- I’m not 2 ½ Mommy. I’m almost 3). Meredith looked at the big horse and said, “It’s not real Mommy?” No, it’s real.
Last night she was asking if the kids at the park were real. Yes, they are real. As she lay down to sleep she asked if I was real. She started joking with me and saying that I was pretend. I had to correct her. No honey, not pretend. Mommy’s just too good to be true.
