One Week of Crazy!

Two weeks ago was probably one of the busiest weeks of the summer. At least I hope it was. And I hope it goes down in history as one of the busiest weeks ever, because I don’t want to have to repeat it!

It all started off with Vacation Bible School at our church, which runs Sunday night through Thursday night. Meredith loves VBS, and I do too. I always have. She really gets into the songs, playing games, making snacks etc. I lead a group this year, which was just toting them from activity to activity. I had quite a group! They were…active, talkative, somewhat disrespectful, loud, and exhausting. We get large community involvement in our VBS, so out of my 16 1st and 2nd graders only 2 were from our church. I felt like all I did was discipline and yell all week. We were the group each leader feared and cringed when we walked into the room! Through all the crazy behavior though, I think they had fun, and I hope that somewhere a seed was planted and they’ll have a positive memory of the week.

VBS- picture from my phone so a little fuzzy- Meredith is in the green shirt with the bandana on her head

In addition to VBS, Meredith had Safety Town each morning Monday through Friday. She has been looking forward to Safety Town since her big cousin went a couple of years ago and we picked her up one day. It is held at the elementary school she will be going to kindergarten at in the fall, and is only for kids entering kindergarten, so I really wanted her to go to have that familiarity and comfort level. Plus, they teach them so much! Safety classes on fire, playground, bike, water, and school bus, stranger danger, crossing the street, 911, stop drop and roll, and the list goes on. It is amazing what they crammed in. Meredith was most excited about riding the school bus on the last day. She said she needed to know how to get the windows open on the school bus before school starts. That’s what she’s worried about!

Safety Town Graduate!

Also, in the week of crazy, Meredith had her first tennis lesson this year. She took tennis last year and we thought we would give it a go again this year.

In addition, we were watching my friend’s cats on our way to VBS, and ended up taking a friend from Meredith’s day care from safety town to day care each day. Shew!

I kept saying all week- there’s going to be a meltdown, and it may just be me! Meredith did amazing. I really was so impressed. We rested each afternoon, and on Wednesday when I picked her up she was getting a little crabby and snippy taking her friend to day care. I made her lay down for a nap that day with me, and we both slept for 2 hours!

Meredith has had some issues getting up in front of people in the past several months. Many people don’t like to get up in front of people, but she’s what I like to call a closet diva. She loves to perform at home! She wouldn’t get up for her ballet performance until it was mostly done, balked at soccer games but did fine at practice, so I was mostly concerned with the VBS program , Safety Town graduation, and getting out there for the first tennis lesson. She got up for all of them, no problems, no crying or complaining. I was so proud. She really is growing up!
