The holiday activities have stacked up and with Christmas a mere 5 days away things are finally slowing down. Unfortunately this is a busy time of year at work for both Frank and me, so we have both been falling into bed lately after working, coming home, cleaning, baking cookies, putting together toys, wrapping presents or whatever else we need to accomplish. In the midst of all that though, I still love Christmas. This year Meredith is really getting into things which makes the preparation that much more exciting. Hopefully all of this is not done to facilitate a colossal 2 year old meltdown on Christmas Eve!
Meredith has a slight obsession with babies which has adorably transformed into a pure delight at seeing baby Jesus. It melts my heart every time! Whether she is looking at a nativity set, Christmas card or one of her Christmas books she goo goo gaa gaas baby Jesus every time. She has the awesome Fisher Price nativity set and she is really enjoying playing with that. My sister was babysitting the day we pulled out the Christmas decorations and she told Aunt Erica that baby Jesus (who is encased in hay and in the manger) was in a car seat!
We had a few fun holiday highlights:
1. Meredith’s day care actually had a Winter Concert. I waited in anticipation of what in the world they thought a room full of 18 month to almost 3 year olds were really going to do in front of a room full of parents that resembled paparazzi. Amazingly they all stood there through their 3 songs. No, they didn’t sing, a few jingled their bells, but no one cried. To me, mission accomplished.
2. Frank ventured out of town for work so I took Meredith to the church across the street from our neighborhood for Journey to Bethlehem, a live nativity. As Meredith and I were talking about it we were naming the animals we might see. Meredith was most excited about a camel and kept asking if there would be a camel. After going over that camels don’t really live in our city, when we pulled into the church, they had camels!!! It was a really fun little tour and they had little stations set up with Biblical characters that told the story of Jesus birth. There were 3 camels, horses, donkeys, cows, sheep, and goats!
3. I had to work a Saturday, so Frank loaded up Meredith for a visit with Santa. She is all prepared for what to ask him for: kitchen, Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang DVDs, and movie for Momma’s car (DVD player in the car- she sees other cars with it at stoplights and wants one). To tell the story as Frank would they waited in line with Meredith anxiously awaiting her turn. After 40 minutes of waiting in line Meredith was the first child to cry and refuse to sit on Santa’s lap. Apparently there was some sort of talking to Santa, but she instantly turned into a koala practically strangling Frank’s neck.
I probably won’t get a chance to update for a little while, so everyone have a Merry Christmas!
