Frank and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary on Sunday! We even managed to go out for dinner on Saturday night by ourselves!
Unfortunately the end to the anniversary was a trip to urgent care with Meredith. As much as you say over and over not to touch anything on the stove and to stand back when we open the oven and careful! Hot! Hot! Hot!, she touched a hot pan on the stove and ended up with second degree burns on all of the pads of her fingers. Unfortunately some life lessons are learned the hard way. Her whole hand has to be wrapped and slathered in Neosporin to prevent infection for a week, which has not an easy feat for an active toddler. She has really been a trooper though and the next day she was using her hand and has not complained about pain or anything since.
The Children’s Hospital Urgent Care was wonderful. They brought her back right away because she was crying, gave her a Flavor Pop popsicle (the ones in the plastic tube) to hold and eat and keep her fingers comfortable, and after they wrapped her hand they wrapped her teddy bear’s hand as well. If only they had popsicles for the parent’s too! Frank and I both felt awful that it happened and I imagine it won’t be the first time we feel like that when she gets sick or hurt. Handling your own pain is one thing, but watching your child in pain breaks your heart.
