Oui ma chou chou

Recently we ventured off to one of our favorite places on a family day trip. Ikea! I love Ikea, Frank likes it, mostly for the low prices, and Meredith is a fan. They are so child friendly there! Meredith loves to eat there and get the kids meal Swedish meatballs, and she loves to go into the kids play area, which gives Frank and me an hour of shopping, checking out and loading the car. Our nearest Ikea is about an hour and a half away, so it’s a little hike. We were on a quest for new bedroom furniture for Meredith since she’s gotten bigger, and her clothes have gotten bigger, and well, that dresser we’ve had since she was in baby clothes just isn’t cutting it anymore.

I have a lamp on my nightstand and the base of the lamp is the Eiffel Tower:

Meredith has asked me a lot about this lamp and the Eiffel Tower and where that is. I’ve explained it’s in Paris, France, which is a whole other country. She nods, but really it could be across town for all she knows.

On the way to Ikea, Meredith is looking out the window at the scenery. As we pass by she exclaims, “Mommy! The Eiffel Tower!” No honey, that’s just a cell phone tower. “There it is!” Again, just power lines. Man, we really need to get out more!

A week or so later, in the car she was pretty quiet from the back seat. As we were driving, she said with a huge sigh, “Mommy, will you take me to Paris to see the real Eiffel Tower someday?” I told her that I want to see it too, and oui ma chou chou, someday, we’re off to Paris!
