You know when you plan a party there are a few things that typically happen:
1. People are horrible at RSVPing. Why is that? So frustrating.
2. Not everyone invited will be able to make it.
This year is the first year we have done a party with friends for Meredith. With having 7 cousins, our family parties for her are pretty much a kids party too. This year we opened wide the flood gates and decided to invite her friends too.
Here's the thing about the timing-- the group of friend for Meredith has really changed in the past 6 months. With her no longer at day care at all, and with her buddies there off to elementary schools in a few different districts, the friends from day care are essentially no more. Now we are on to the school friends, of which I really only knew a few at party planning point.
Meredith chose an indoor inflatable bounce play area. We could have up to 25 kids without an additional charge, so Frank and I decided to go for it and invite the whole class. Of course we invited the cousins this first time too, and her ballet friend buddies, her neighbor friend, and any girls in her Daisy troop that weren't in her class. The total invites were 34. We figured we would go over a little bit, but oh my. The 2 party planning guidelines above were both broken. 31 kids with a Yes RSVP!!
The party was on Saturday, and it was really fun! The kids had a great time. All of the little boys played so hard they were sweating all over the place. Adults are able to get in the inflatables too, so I got to play too! The place was clean and so well organized. We had a party planner, so we didn't have to worry about much. After we had 29 Yeses I let go of my idea to make monkey cupcakes and just bought a sheet cake to reduce my stress- that was the best decision!
Meredith had a blast and is now in party aftermath, and our family room looks like Christmas morning. Crazy. and slightly ridiculous.
I told Frank this will be her last big party until graduation or her wedding!
And my little girl is 6 now. Wow, that seems like a transition, and really this year has been. She's gotten so big and independent, is super smart (of course I say that, but now I have outside validation from her teachers too ;) ), super silly, but still cuddly and loving. It's a great age really. I'd have to say so far, my favorite. It's amazing to see how much she learns at school, and that school is still fun and cool and she enjoys it. Hopefully that lasts, at least through college.
Happy Birthday MerBear! We love you!
