The following usually ensues in regards to Frank's birthday:
1. It sneaks up on me in early February. Even though it isn't really close to the holidays, it seems like it for some reason.
2. I never know what to get him, considering Christmas just ended. I have yet to have an awesome birthday gift for him.
3. He is no help whatsoever. Every year we go through the battle of Wwhat do you want for your birthday" "I don't want anything" "You know you are getting something, so help me out here" "Do you want to go to dinner, have cake, all of the above?" "I don't want anything".
I have to admit, this year I was so frustrated with his lack of excitement for his bday (which is so counter to my 12 days of Kristen) he almost got nothing. I think I felt extra pressure because it was a milestone birthday, and I felt unprepared.
Frank's sister to the rescue-- she suggested that we go to a state park lodge with his whole family for the weekend. It worked out great! We ended up not only celebrating his 40th, but my nephew's 10th and niece's 5th. Meredith got to play with the nieces and nephews, we played in the game room, swam in the pool, and basically hung out. It was really nice- nice to get away, nice to make memories, nice to have the majority of the family together. Since Frank's side of the family is so big, we are considering another trip in May/June for the 4 birthdays we have in those 2 months.
In the end, the birthday still came, we had cake, he got a present= success. Happy Birthday Frank!
Now go take a nap old man!
