A couple of weekends ago Meredith got her big girl bed! Her room went from looking like this:
To this!:
She really likes her new bed and so far things have been going OK. Our normal bedtime routine is up in the air right now, so we are all trying to figure it out. Besides eliminating the crib, we also eliminated the rocking chair. Yes, we still rocked Meredith before putting her to bed. We would rock for 5 or so minutes then lay her down so she could go to sleep. Yes, I know it is ridiculous because there towards the end the two of us could barely be in the rocking chair at the same time. You do what you’ve got do sometimes.
The one difficulty we have had is Meredith’s fond attachment to our shirts. Yes, our shirts. It must have started when she was a baby and heightened between age 1-2, but for comfort she will grab my or Frank’s shirt at the neck or at the sleeve. Often times her whole hand is inside the shirt and she is grabbing the material from the inside out. Aww, cute you think. You think wrong. It can be the most annoying thing. I have probably flashed more people than I care to admit in the past 2.5 years. I have learned to tolerate it because I know it is a source of comfort for her.
The lack of rocking has also led to the lack of shirt grabbing, so hopefully the shirt grabbing will transition on over to her stuffed animals or blankets. Otherwise, if you see me in a turtleneck at her high school graduation, you’ll know why.
