The Fair

Frank had a golf tournament on Saturday with some friends, so in looking for something to keep myself and Meredith occupied for the day I called in my back up- Aunt Erica. She agreed to entertain us and we discussed the possible outing options and eventually decided on the Ohio State Fair.

The fair started this week and only runs for a few weeks. It is one of the largest state fairs which means lots of animals, lots of fried foods prepared on sticks and lots of rides that have the ability to fold up onto a truck when the fair is over. I will have to say I am not a lover of fairs particularly, but I thought it would be fun for Meredith to see the farm animals close up and run around a bit.

You really can see things and people at the fair that you can't find anywhere else. I mean, how often can you see this?

Yes, it is a life size butter sculpture of a cow and calf. The do it every year. This year the other sculpture was a 10 foot tall wedge of swiss cheese. What? Yeah, I don't know either.

And where else can you eat this?

Yes folks, from what I can tell this is the latest fair craze. Watch out deep fried candy bars- we have the roast beef sundae. What you have here is mashed potatoes, beef, topped with sour cream, cheese sprinkles and a cherry tomato. I did not partake, but actually, it probably was really good and healthier for you than the typical 'fare'. (pun intended)

Overall, our goal was achieved. Meredith saw cows, pigs, piglets that were just adorable, pig races (oh yes, nothing but the best!), chickens, roosters, heard some music, ate some food, indulged and submerged herself in a lemon shake up and ran around a little too. She conked out in the car on the way home; one hot, sticky mess but now with the most accurate 'moo' on the block.
