We had Meredith's birthday party on the 10th. It is still hard to believe that she is officially two! The party was kept to just family and Godparents, which still puts us at around 20 people and a full house. The majority of the aunts and uncles made it and both sets of Grandparents- my parents were in from Florida. The theme I picked this year was Sesame Street. Again I figured it would be the last time I would be picking the theme, so I held off on the pink explosion and tierras for another year.
Meredith had a great time! We had lunch and then Meredith's Aunt Sis made two cakes- Cookie Monster and Big Bird. She made a funny face through most of the singing of Happy Birthday, blew out her candle like a pro and moved on to the mountain of presents. I mean mountain! She received so many nice gifts and really is enjoying playing with all of them.
The one gift that was a topper was a scooter from my parents. Yes, you wouldn't think that a 2 year old would want or need a scooter, but Meredith has been pining for one all summer long. On our many trips to our neighborhood park she saw the other kids riding scooters and has been asking for one since. When we were in Florida recently in the car she saw a kid on a scooter and again asked for one. I told her that you know Mommy and Daddy aren't going to buy you a scooter until you are older. Meredith then asked, "Poppi?". She would ask Poppi for a scooter! And she did just that. After we arrived at our destination she remembered in that little 2 year old head of hers to ask for a scooter. At first I couldn't figure out what she had saying because my 31 year old head had already put it out of my mind! Amazingly enough she figured out in a day how to work the scooter. Watch out neighborhood! Here we come!
